KOHĀ – a New Zealand Maori word meaning to enable, aid, contribute, embrace, celebrate, embellish, nurture, acknowledge, be generous.
n. it is life (figuratively). The concept is one of representing a gift, contribution or donation given to show gratitude, respect and/or support for the good of others deeply rooted in relationship and community. It represents a gift of breath/life.
Through Kohā we do not want people to feel pressured about coming, but that rather ‘desire’ to be involved and enjoy being part of The Caim.
Throughout the year, we run a number of Kohā mornings/afternoons and seasonal events for our community here at The Caim. Gathering for kohā we share in the growing of a wide range of vegetables and a range of garden activities. Everyone gets to be involved in tasks that they can manage and enjoy. It’s also important to sit around a table and enjoy some refreshments and get to know one another better. There is never any pressure on anyone.
Together we are taking positive action by growing fresh local produce to put into local larders and make available to the wider community as well as benefit our local environment. Do you want to be part of that? Then come join in a Kohā gathering.
